    What is ICANN?


    What is ICANN?

    ICANN is a non-profit organization that manages the internet. They help to keep the internet stable and secure and decide all policies for top-level domains and name servers.

    All domain registrars need to comply with the rules set by ICANN, for example:

    • Require customers to agree with their terms.
    • Publish information in the WHOIS and make sure it stays up to date.
    • Inform registrants when their domain is about to expire.

      Before reading this post I did not realize that ICANN is a non-profit. Taking a glance at the board of directors I was please to see that there is a wide range of diversity there. I believe that's important for any organization to have so that different view points and expertise can be brought to the table.
