    Overview

    Description

    The script allows to define the maximum number of topics a user can post, given a time frame and given in which sections this may happen.

    Technical limitations

    › This tutorial is dedicated to the forums powered by Forumotion free forum service
    › It works with all Forumotion forums' versions

    Installation


    Javascript & jQuery

    For the next step you need to go towards Administration Control Panel (ACP)   Modules HTML & Javascript Javascript codes management and create a new code - upon verifying that Javascript codes management is enabled.

    • Title: free choice - does not influence the code effect
    • Where: All pages
    • Code:

      You need to reply to the topic in order to see the code resources




    Javascript Customization

    You can modify the following variables:
    • Code:
      var forumsConcerned = '1,2,3',
      refers to the forums where the script applies; you can specify which forum ID are concerned, separated by comas.
    • Code:
      waitTime = 24,
      defines the time, in hours, within the user can post the certain amount of topics
    • Code:
      limitTopic = 1,
      defines the number of topics you allow in those sections, given the waitTime
    • Code:
      message
      refers to the message displayed to the user if the number of topics given the time limit is reached


    Other considerations

    There is also a
    Code:
    nbCharSujet
    variable, because the script only updates the number of messages if the subject has more than 9 characters (from 10 therefore). To check how many minimum characters it is possible to enter for a topic name on the forum, and adapt the value of
    Code:
    nbCharSujet
    accordingly.

    Finally, the chosen technique is as follows:
    • If you don't have any message yet, nothing special.
    • If you have less messages than the allowed ones, then the alert appears but leaves the possibility to write a message.
    • If you have more messages than the allowed ones, the alert message appears and the "Send" button is removed, so it is impossible to post

        If you have a flood section in your forum and wants to limit the number of topics that the user can answer and don't elevate the number of post easy :o
